FAIR TRADE AGM & CONFERENCE

Another fruitful year has passed for fair trade in South Africa and we would like to share our progress with you at our Fair Trade Annual General Meeting and Conference, hosted at the Fountains Hotel in Cape Town, on the 27 and 28 October.
The Fair Trade AGM & Conference is an annual event that is hosted by Fair Trade South Africa (FTSA), the umbrella organisation for the fair trade movement in this country. It attracts numerous local and international stakeholders that are involved in fair trade or are interested in the fair trade cause. More than 200 between fair trade craft and agricultural producers and traders, fair trade in tourism operators, farm workers, NGOs, media, students, etc. participate to the conference every year.
The program will cover a wide range of fair trade issues:
On Wednesday 27 October AGM matters will be covered; such as the annual report from the chairperson and the executive director, and the financial report. Thereafter we will discuss the new constitution and elect a new board for FTSA. After lunch, participants will be updated on the work of the various fair trade networks and organisations, thus giving an image on where fair trade stands for agricultural producers, craft organisation, tourism organisations, etc. The afternoon of presentation will be followed by a relaxing Cocktail, also hosted at the Fountains Hotel.
On Thursday 28 October morning, participants will be offered the opportunity to attend workshops. The workshops offered are the following:
- Planning Fairtrade Promotion for 2011, hosted by Fairtrade Label South Africa (FLSA)
- Fairtrade Premium Management, hosted by FLO & FLO-Cert
- An Organisation Review of Fairtrade Africa: Implications for Members and Producers, hosted by the African Fairtrade Network (AFN)
- COFTA SA Network Building: Stakeholder Consultation on 3-year Strategic and Action Plan, hosted by the Coop. for Fair Trade in Africa (COFTA)
- The Relevance of Tourism for Fair Trade, hosted by Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA)

If you want to nominate yourself as a candidate for the Fair Trade South Africa (FTSA) board please fill in the Candidacy Form AGM (Kb240) and email it to conference@fairtrade.org.za or fax it to 021 4483665. The deadline for candidacies is Monday 2 October 2010.
FTSA has limited funding to provide financial assistance to those fair trade beneficiaries that would like to attend but have no financial means to. If you are a fair trade beneficiary (worker on a Fairtrade farm; worker in a craft organisation; employee in tourism establishment) you can apply for such funding, which will be given on a first-come-first-served basis.
