3 SOUTH AFRICAN WINES WIN 'BEST FAIRTRADE' WINE'

 

07.10.2010 - For the second year in a row, Stichting Max Havelaar (Fairtrade Netherlands) and the wine portal By the Grape chose 'Best Fairtrade Wine of the Year'. The event was held at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam and was attended by important wine buyers and writers.

Participants blind-tasted a variety of 56 wines from South Africa, Argentina and Chile. Out of four categories, South African wines won three:

Red: Fairtrade Koopmanskloof Cabernet Sauvignon
White: Fair Trade Original Chardonnay
Rose': The Balance Shiraz Rose

The first time category, Best Newcomer, was won by an Argentinean wine farm Solombra for their Malbec Reserve.
