05.12.2011 - November 2011 was the first issue of the newly launched Ethical Living, a unique new magazine which aims to reach the widening group of South Africans whose decisions are becoming more influenced by climate change, Fairtrade, animal welfare and good governance.
In light of intricate ethical consumerism debates, Ethical Living is dedicated to informing local consumers and deliver information that is not only highly instructive but also entertaining and thought-provoking. Each month's issue covers a specific theme or industry and includes an Ethical Living Buying Guide, which will inform on the ethical footprint of everyday products, from bread, toothpaste, toiler paper or coffee, to larger purchases such as cars or washing machines.
The current issue (December 2011) is dedicated to personal computers - the ultimate global consumer product. Made out of thousands of materials and with the hands of thousands of workers, personal computers are a primary product of the mining industry that enter a production line touching various countries, various laws and hardly any traceability at all. This issue therefore brings consumers into a journey through toxic chemicals, mining of conflict materials, workers' rights in manufacturing and the future for greener computers.
The next issue (January 2012) is dedicated to washing machines, detergents and instant coffee and will include an in-depth feature on Fairtrade.
