FAIRTRADE SPORT BALLS
12.03.2010 - Pakistan is one of the largest producers of sport balls, supplying up to 70% of the world's global demand. The sport balls industry has often been at the center of critiques for its unfair use of labour, including child labour.
Although Fairtrade standards are mostly developed around agricultural commodities, the highly discriminatory practices used in the sport balls industry have led FLO to develop standards also for this commodity. Fairtrade certified sport balls ensure that all workers in the supply chain, from factory workers to stitchers, receive at least the national minimum wage; that no child labour is used; and that the health and safety of workers is safeguarded.
