FAIRTRADE WINE WINS AT PEROLD ABSA CAPE BLEND COMPETITION
28.11.2011 - Corlea Fourie of Fairtrade accredited Wellington winery, Bosman Family Vineyards, walked away with the Top honours at this year's inaugural Perold ABSA Cape Blend competition, which finished in style during an awards ceremony in Paarl on 10 November 2011.
Absa and the Pinotage Association announced earlier this year that the Absa Perold Cape Blend Competition was aimed at creating a signature style for the composition of true Cape Blends. The blended wine should contain a minimum of 30% and maximum of 70% Pinotage.
Fourie's Bosman "Erfenis" 2010 was the only Fairtrade wine on the coveted Perold ABSA Top Cape Blend list. The other winning wines on the list were Idelia 2009 Cape Blend of Swartland and the Cape Blend from Wildekrans called Jake White.
"We are please to see that, again, Fairtrade wines are triumphing in prestigious local competitions," comments Boudewijn Goossens, executive director of Fairtrade Label South Africa. He continues, "We believe these achievements will encourage South Africans to drink more Fairtrade wines - an exquisite combination of good quality and social and environmental responsibility".
Bosman Family Vineyards "Sur Lie" Chenin Blanc 2011 was also nominated as the Best Fairtrade White Wine earlier this year at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards.
