INSPIRED BY RICHARD BRANSON

24.05.2011 - In the current edition of the big issue, the guest editor Richard Branson (yes, the Virgin Atlantic Richard Branson, the Screw It, Let's Do It Richard Branson!) tells South Africans about entrepreneurship and how "setting up a business is about finding a service or a product that can make people's lives better and make your staff proud". It reminded us of Fairtrade...and not only because the article shows a pic of Branson wearing the Big Issue vendors' jacket sponsored by Fairhills Wines and carrying the Fairtrade label!

Branson's article is very inspiring and seems to encourage a more progressive South Africa, where a socially responsible entrepreneurial boom can benefit not only the economy but the country as a whole. It is therefore not surprising to discover that Branson has been a fierce support of Fairtrade for many years, especially since 2007, when his most famous company Virgin Atlantic started serving Fairtrade coffee and tea on all flights.

"Virgin Atlantic recognises how important it is for all companies to understand the impact of the products they use, both on the environment and on the people producing them. So, we are proud to support Fairtrade, which guarantees farmers a fair price for their product, and are really pleased that our passengers will benefit from a comprehensive range of Fairtrade teas and coffees onboard our flights".
