SIX HATS FAIRTRADE WINES NOW AVAILABLE
Fairtrade Label South Africa welcomes the first licensee of 2011, Six Hats Fairtrade wines - an important addition to the existing other 14 local companies that have introduced their Fairtrade products in the South African market.
The Six Hats range of Fairtrade wines was launched internationally in 2009 and is one of a small, but growing, range of African Fairtrade wines in the market. The brand originates from a partnership between Citrusdal Wine Cellar and four Fairtrade certified wine grape producers: Bergendal Boerdery, Paardekop Boerdery, Rheeboksfontein and Saamstaan Boerdery. Please click on each farm name to have more information on the current Fairtrade projects.
The brand name refers to the working hats worn by both farmer and the community that collaborate with the cellar. The results of these positive collaborations are summarized on the label by six elegantly illustrated hats, which identify:
Partnership, Change, Potential, Equity, Dignity and Sustainability
Francois Cillie, responsible for the Six Hats brand, comments, "The wines are proudly supporting a variety of projects at the community level. We are currently busy with completing a créche, developing sporting facilities and installing solar panels in farm workers' homes".
Six Hats Fairtrade wines are currently available in 35 Pick 'n Pay stores across the Western Cape. The range includes:
